Carpet tape is a strong, double-sided adhesive tape used to secure carpets and rugs to the floor. It prevents slipping, keeps corners flat, and joins carpet seams together. It comes in various strengths, from temporary hold for events to permanent bonding for home installation.

The tape has adhesive on both sides. You stick one side to the floor and the other to the carpet backing. This creates a strong bond that anchors the carpet in place, preventing movement, curling, and tripping hazards without the need for glue or tack strips.

Clean and dry the floor first. Apply the tape along the perimeter of the room or the edges of the rug. Peel off the top protective liner. Firmly press the carpet down onto the exposed adhesive. Walk over the edges to ensure a secure bond.

Measure the length required and cut the tape. Stick it to the floor surface, pressing firmly. Do not remove the top liner yet. Position your carpet correctly. Lift the carpet edge, peel off the liner, and press the carpet down securely onto the sticky tape surface.

To remove tape from wood, warm it gently with a hairdryer to soften the adhesive. Peel it up slowly at a 45-degree angle. If residue remains, use a wood-safe adhesive remover or rubbing alcohol on a cloth to wipe it clean without damaging the varnish.

If sticky residue is left on the carpet backing, apply a small amount of adhesive remover or white vinegar to a cloth. Dab the area gently; do not rub vigorously. Let it sit for a few minutes, then scrape the residue off carefully with a dull knife.

Lift the carpet edge and pull the tape slowly. If it is stuck fast, use a steamer or hairdryer to melt the glue. Pull the tape away from the carpet fibers gently. Using a commercial adhesive solvent can also help dissolve the bond for easier removal.
